Learning Reflection

My feelings in this subject.

At the beginning of the class, I felt this subject was very difficult and I thought I may do it not well. But when I started to learn, I know this subject is not the most difficult. I could do it very well because I had high points in midterm test. So I was happy very much when I learn this class. I think the instructor have the most important to motivate in learning. She is kind, good looking and understand the students. So I liked to learn this subject very 
much.

My attitude toward this subject.

I had good attitude with this subject because I think this subject have many benefits and I like to read books so this subject is very good for me.

What knowledge I gained from this course?

In this course, I have many knowledge for reading. I learned 10 untils and every weeks I had to write my blog. So I must attend to study for writing the blog.

1. I can discuss , analyze and comprehend texts.

2. I understand the meaning of the text by identifying the topic, stating the the main idea, and located supporting details.

3. I can find references of each paragraph.

4. I can predict the content of the text.

5. I can identify patterns of the text organization.

6. I can identify the main idea after reading the text.

7. I can make a summary of the text that is read.

8. I can read the text is quickly and comprehensively

9. I can use online dictionaries well.

10. I can create a Weblog and record learning experience in the Weblog.

The simplicity and difficulty I found in this course:

I liked unit 1 " Healthy diet " very much because it is easy for me and I thought unit 6 "Ann Landers" descriptions of book and novels is the most difficult in this course.

How do I apply this subject with reading in the future?

I think this subject has many benefits in reading. I know technical to read the texts.

If I don't know meaning of the word, I can guess it and understand the text.

 
 
 
 

English Reading Strategies Week15

Extensive Reading

This is the last week that we studied this course. At my point of view "Time goes by fast" because the study in the first semester will end and I have to take a final examination so I need to prepare myself as well in order to get the better scores of this final examination.

Today, we studied about "EXTENSIVE READING" before we studied, the teacher had told us about the midterm test scores. I got 12.5 points. I was unpleasure with my score a little bit because I hadn't been confident about the final test and very difficult. When she had already told us, she taught us about this content. An important point is that the two language researchers conducted an interesting experiment with a group of English language students in Japan. These students didn't like English and failed the test so the researchers put these students in a special class. At the end of the semester, the results were surprising because their scores on the new tests were as high as the regular English students including their English ability had been improved and they had been enjoy of this class.

Next, we responded the questions of this handout. I used the skimming skill by reading the title, subtitle in order to find the answers respectively. In addition, I used the scanning by reading the details in order to find the questions either.

I also knew that "READING ENGLISH" can help us to improve other skills including Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading skills. It can tend to help us to get the high TOEIC/TOEFL scores. Thereby, if we read a lot, we will tend to have these skills and get the high TOEIC/TOEFL scores as well. 

 

How can extensive reading help you?

- Helps you improve reading skills
- Improves reading speed by reading enjoyable and easy texts 
- Improves your writing skills without even practicing writing at all
- Helps speaking skills, as well as listening skills to a lesser extend
- Tend to have high TOEFL/TOEIC scores
- It is one of the way to learn language

 We answered the questions in sheet, first I read the question and then I found the answers by see the sub-heading and skimming texts in that paragraph. It was not too hard when I read it because vocabularies are easy but when I didn't know some word, I found meaning from the context. This strategy, I studied from read faster lesson.

Read faster! [ Continued ] and THE ASEAN COMMUNITY

THE ASEAN COMMUNITY 2015

Today, we studied about The ASEAN Community 2015. First of all, the teacher answered the questions by giving us to write the answers on the whiteboard.

I also knew about the details of ASEAN such as the names of the member countries are Brunei, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. 

The tree doors of the ASEAN Community are peace, prosperity and people etc.

Then, she gave us to work in group. Each of groups consists of 4-5 members. She gave the topic "The impact of ASEAN Community" she let us to brainstorm in order to present in front of the classroom in English version.

THE ADVANTAGES:

1. Free Trade Area of ASEAN

2. Jobs and opportunities will increase.

3. Transport and Technology will be better.

4. Having chance to study other countries in ASEAN.

5. The prices of products will be cheaper.

6. The exports of products will be widespread around the world.

7. The negotiation of prices' products will be effective.

8. English is the central language to communicate.

9. Economic and business will grow.

10. Exchange culture together

THE DISADVANTAGES:

1. The competition will increase.

2. The people will be unemployed if they don't have enough proficiency.

3. The combat of people in ASEAN owing to history of each countries

4. It will cause of epidemic as a result of migration.

5. It will be misunderstanding of the religion and culture .

6. It will cause of the crime.

How to prepare yourself for ASEAN Community

-  You should know about ASEAN information.

-  You should practice English skill, speaking, reading, listening as well as possible.

-  You have to know a culture and taboo of another country in ASEAN.

-  Find a chance to be student exchange for developing of yourself.

-  Not only study English language, but also ASEAN country such as Bahaza language and etc.

-  You should be a role model for your own country.

-  You should respect other opinions, religions and accents.

-  Don’t be shy to speak English to foreigner.

-  Don’t be scared to make a mistake in English practice.

THIS IS OUR SUMMARY

1. Having background knowledge in ASEAN

2. Opening mind to accept of the differences of people in society for example, Exchanging culture or language each other

3. Having analyzed skill to solve the problem

4. Adaptation in daily life

5. Practicing again and again

6. Using the Internet to be benefit in working

7. Learning about history of other countries in ASEAN including their languages

8. Having the discipline to yourself and people around yourself

9. Motivation yourself to participate ASEAN by knowing situation in the present, learning other languages such as Vietnamese language, Bahaza, Catalogue etc

10. Having efficiency to work in pair with other people

In this lesson, there were many words about ASEAN. Somewords I used to see these before. I thought this lesson would be easy for me.

Then, the teacher gave her handout to us the topic is "Extensive reading" before we started this lesson, we had already written the words that associated with the research on English language reading on the whiteboard.

After that, She gave us to read the text as fast as possible  and if we met the unknown words, did not stop reading. Before we finished teacher gave us to do exercise in sheet as homework.
