A Discourse Approach in Reading week7









On Tuesday, 01 March, 2016



 Procedure 



We started class with  new lesson was “Procedure”. The teacher showed the recipe about how to make a Banana Shake on the PowerPoint.  Then, she gave us the sheet – “Procedure”.  




Next, she explained the text organisation of procedure. It consists of:


 Goal (often indicated in the main heading and / or diagram)

 Materials (listed in order of use such as utensils, ingredients etc.)

 Method (steps oriented towards achieving the goal)




Then, she taught us about how to make a Banana Shake. First, we looked at the slide of presentation, we saw the Banana Shake Recipe. There are there parts of this recipe,Goal, Materials, and Method, they made us understand what is it about and how to make it.















After that, she also taught us about how to make a Banana Cake. We looked at the goal, ingredients and method respectively. She read the text to us and let us practice to pronounce the difficult words via Cambridge Dictionary. The recipe also contains two headings, 'Method' and 'Ingredients', which make it clear to us what is involved in making the cake.




















Later, we did the exercise by matching each sentence with the correct picture. Then put all sentences in the correct order. I also did it and found that it was quite difficult owing to the difference of making omelette in Thailand with Another country. So, I needed to study more by searching the information via the internet in order to understand greatly.

















Next, we did the exercise 2 by reading the Chicken Soup Recipe and then, answer the questions. This exercise was neutral because Mostly, I could understand it but there were some words that I haven't known before.





















Then, we did the last exercise which is to read the text ans answer the questions that follow. This text is about the toaster which lets us know about the using of this appliances. So, there are many questions that we had to find the answers from this text, It was neutral either but looked puzzle because of much information in the text.




We finished the lesson at 11.15 a.m. then, she told us that we have to take a midterm test on next Tuesday. The contents are unit 1 - 4 which are Recount, Narrative, Descriptive, and Procedure. Hence, I have to prepare by reading more and finding the text that related with those units. The midterm test is coming. Everyone thinks it is difficult but it is easy if we prepare to do it our best.

 What did you learn today?


I started the new unit which is "Procedure" and did the exercises.








 What did you find easy?


In my opinion, guessing the recipe is easy. We can understand it by looking at the goal first. Then, we look at the materials and method respectively.








 What did you find difficult?


In my opinion, some adjectives are unfamiliar so I can't know them exactly. 








 What did you solve the problem?


When I see unfamiliar words, I will find their meanings after I finish reading the text. Then, I will pronounce those words and jot them down on my notebook. 







 What are your attitudes towards the lesson?


I think that this lesson is important in our society because it enables us to gain things done. So if we read about this genre, we can understand it as well. This genre is commonly found in our society so that's why it is significant and we should know about it.
